John Horace Waghorn, died 30th May 1916, aged 31.
Private 438648, 52nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment).
Born at Riseden Quarter, Kilndown on 27th March 1885 and he lived and worked there as a farm labourer before emigrating to Canada in March 1909. He enlisted at Port Arthur, Ontario in April 1915 and first arrived in the front line in Belgium a few miles south of Ypres in March 1916. He remained in the Ypres sector and was killed during a German bombardment of the trenches near Sanctuary Wood. His name is among those of the missing carved on the Menin Gate in Ypres.
